Google Place Optimization – Search Visibility Factor

Google Place optimization is one of the recent most important SEO factor to increase the visibility of a business or company in the web search result. Generally, if you are searching something with a location (city name) related keyword, Google will show the place listing along with the web results.

What can be enlisted in Google Place?

•    Business or company name
•    Brief  business description
•    Business address spotted in Google Map
•    Title with keyword to get SEO value
•    Business category
•    Contact details (Phone, fax, email)
•    Website
•    Images and videos
•    Business related other details in limited space.
•    Latest events announcement for limited time period
•    Tags etc.

In organic search result, generally we get highlighted keywords with two lines description and the relevant URLs. But if you can optimize the Google Place efficiently then the map results will appear along with the web results. And this is only visible (maximum seven top place listing) in the front page of search results. So, visitors can get a clear idea about business locations, directions and brief description before entering the websites of the top results. Local search results have a noticeable amount of traffic diversion to the main site.

How to create Google Place?

From Google account settings, place listing can be created. Initially it requires business name, actual address details and contact number. But the listing will not be visible instantly after the submission. Google will verify the listing contacting the given address and then it can be activated with activation PIN. After getting visibility, place listing can be optimized in SEO view point with above mentioned details and many more.

To improve Google Place listing rank, business listing and local classified submission with proper keywords is very important.

SEO vs SMO – An Overview

Few years back no one was able to locate your business on Google if the site was not optimized properly. So the idea of choosing between a search engine optimization (SEO) process, or doing social media optimization (SMO) for a website, was very easy – that was SEO. But the introduction of social media has changed the concept of online marketing and promotion.

Social media evolution is effecting SEO, and this problem is going on for many business strategists. While Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube, blogging, flickr and SEO press releases give companies a huge advantage to drive website traffic as well as targeted clients or customers with increased awareness in short time span, then people are thinking twice to optimize (off-page) their websites for the search engines.

Now these days, social media is enhancing SEO scope, and according to the review reports businesses can get free evaluation and derive goal immediately. Due to this advantage, now business owners, chief marketing officers and brand strategists can work with online resources to evaluate what keywords will drive their businesses.

Social Media Optimization

It is important for the business owners to maintain a Twitter account, set up a company Facebook page and a LinkedIn profile. Through respective application, interconnectivity among these sites is very important. If these sites are set up properly and managed well, it will prevent competitors from attempting to hijack a company’s brand.

• To me LinkedIn is outstanding for building a professional network. The site is very much user friendly, and it connects you with a wide range of business professionals, thematic groups, jobs, companies, facilitates recommendations and also assists to increase SEO advantage with brand identity.

• Twitter is also beneficial and very effective medium when you are trying to spread hot topics. There must be connectivity with other social media sites.

• A company should use Facebook for branding. Brand page creation, adding videos, tutorials, graphics, and post news to wall and optimization with a well maintained profile can accelerate the awareness of a business.

• Videos presentation with SEO headlines, tags, descriptions, demonstration and interviews facilitate the company name, brand and conveys message to the targeted audience. YouTube, MetaCafe and other online video sites are very helpful.

Search Engine Optimization

In SEO, On-page optimization has its own strong position to stand a website in the front line of search engine’s results. According to 2011 Google algorithm On-page needs unique content support.

But off-page optimization rather link building trend is towards the optimization of social media. To get above mentioned social media’s advantages in short time, link building process have been incorporated in SMO. Traditional link building process helps to increase back links of a particular site, but it takes time to reach targeted customer. And it has been monitored (Google Analytics) that website traffic is coming from all of the social networking sites, the SEO press releases, videos and podcasts.  So, link building through social media is a better option.

Unique Content : On-Page Ranking Factors

We all know by now that SEO is a vital part of a company’s web marketing campaign. Having a website, blog, or published articles on the web is great—but if no one can find your content in the search engines, then the material is useless. For years, optimizing a page was as easy as including your targeted keywords many times throughout the content and including them in your meta keywords tag. But now all those tactics are for the birds.

We thought it would helpful to compile a quick content optimization checklist of the fundamental methods of optimizing page content for a website. There are numerous on-page ranking factors that the major search engines take into consideration when determining how relevant a given page is for a specific search query. While some of these factors may be more significant than others, it is important to utilize as many as possible to gain a competitive advantage in the search engines. Enjoy!

·         The page content needs to be unique and present quality information that is useful for the VISITOR. Google has made it very clear that a web page should be build for visitors/actual users as opposed to search engine spiders.

·         Each unique page should only target one or two primary keywords. If you are targeting more and the information you are presenting is worthy of its own page then do it! This allows you to hyper focus each page toward ranking well for specific searches.

·         The page title must include the targeted keyword. Also, the closer the keyword appears towards the front of the title, the better.

·         Your targeted keywords should be scattered naturally throughout the article. Do not force the keyword into your content as your ranking can actually be penalized for attempting to keyword stuff your content.

·         Include variations of the targeted keyword (here at ideaLaunch we refer to them as secondary keywords) throughout the content.

·         Include the targeted keywords in the url
·         Use the targeted keyword in your header tags—most notably H1.
·         For any image on the page, be sure to include keyword-rich alt tags
·         Name your files with keywords in mind
·         Use the or tag for your keywords

New Google search algorithm prefers quality link building

After the internet search giant Google announced the Panda update in February this year, thousands of sites in the US were seriously impacted.

The improved algorithm digs in deeper into the low-quality websites to yield high-quality results for the user. However, Google claims that the Panda algorithm should affect only about 2% of the websites in the US while the original update impacted over 12% of the US search queries.

Panda update was developed to weed out content farms, thereby removing low quality or offending sites that did not adhere to Google’s quality parameters. In all, the new version aims to target low quality and spammy/scraper sites.

Microsoft-owned ciao.co.uk was seriously hit, facing 94% decline in traffic. The online-shopping portal had been in the frontline of a EU competition case against Google.

As a result, Google has been accused of deliberately reducing the notoriety of some websites. Responding back, a Google spokesperson refused claims- new algorithm targets specific websites while reducing their visibility.

The new Content Farm Panda update will boost the rankings of all high-quality websites with original information and content such as in-depth research reports and thoughtful analysis.

With this Panda update reaching many English language countries abroad, websites managed through “black-hat” SEO strategy will need to employ a proper strategy in place to reposition their website on ethical standards. (source: www.itpro.in)

Google Changes New Panda Algorithm – SEO Viewpoint

Google made an update to their algorithm late February 2011 that has greatly affected many sites and caused a decrease in traffic. The update was called the “Panda” update (aka the “Farmer” update). Google normally does major updates to their algorithm once every 1-2 years. The Panda update is a major update. This is all in an effort for Google to produce the best search results and foil black hat SEO techniques. In general Google always has the searcher in mind and they change their algorithm so as to ensure black hat SEO techniques are not effecting the relevance and high quality of the results on their search engine.

So how do you know if the Panda update effected your website? Quickly check your website analytics from January 2011 until today. Check if you see a sudden decrease in traffic from the end of February until now. Also check on Google Webmaster Tools what words you are currently ranking for and compare that to the keywords you were ranking for before.

Who did the Panda update effect? Generally if you are a website that has high quality content and it is not duplicated elsewhere, Panda would not affect you. Google’s algorithm is notorious for focusing on off page factors like in-links, but this update actually focused on on-page factors.

How do you ensure your website is not negatively affected? Make sure you are not using any black hat techniques on-page like keyword repetition too many times (keywords should be repeated below 5% of total words on page to be safe). Make sure keywords are not repeated next to each other and the copy of the page and meta tags are not ‘spammy’. Also check if there are sites out there that are copying your content like article sites, other industry blogs etc. If they are, ensure your duplicated content is removed post haste. Content should be 100% unique on each of your websites and within the website.

If you play by these rules you will find that this latest Google update actually helps your website rank higher and drops your competitors websites off the first page results as a penalty for using spammy SEO techniques. I have discovered the majority of our websites going up since the algorithm update are due to:

1.    Having a respected and historically ‘clean’ domain,
2.    Having relevant on-page content,
3.    The website is built in a standard and clean way (no extra flash or java to slow it down)
4.    No black hat SEO techniques were employed on-page or off-page

SEO Tactics to Avoid

In this post i am just explaining the points you should avoid to do in SEO. If any of these are in your task list then go ahead and cross them off. They will not help you to reach high in search engine but some of them can hamper your progress.

Hidden Stuff

The days of filling a page with hidden text are long gone. Google, Bing, Yahoo and the other major search engines are sophisticated enough to catch you out at this. If you think that you can use different methods to hide content then you are just wasting your time and efforts because the collective mind of Google's web spam team is smarter than all of you.

Keyword Stuffing

Spamming a page with so many keywords does not help you at all. The content should be original and relevant to the website. Putting so many keywords in content, title or description do not help but just lower the quality of your content and lower your ranking.

Cloaking

Do not try to make two faces of website i.e. one for bots and other for human visitors. Many people do this to boost ranking it also works up to some extant but once you have been found out then you will be in trouble.

Link Competition

If you see your competitor has so many link backs but you have very few as compare to him then don’t list your website on a host of spammy directories to bulk up the numbers. It is only the quality of the links that matters. Focus to get lower volume high quality links than high volume low quality links.

Duplicate Content

Duplicate content is also a big problem for websites. It affects website a lot. Google algorithm ranks any website according to which page it believes is original and authoritative. Google bots do not revisit website frequently if there is duplicate content, due to this website’s ranking goes lower in search engine. So always use fresh and unique content to overcome these problems.
